Week of August 31,2011

Welcome back to school. I am sorry that I am unable to be in school the first few weeks as my recovery from knee replacement surgery is taking longer than I anticipated, but I feel lucky that Mr. Izzo is filling in for me during this time. I will be posting a weekly blog with your homework assignments. It is important to complete all of the homework in a timely manner because it is a large part of your grade. Grading for the class includes:

Tests/Quizzes/Essays 50%
Classwork 25%
Homework 25%
My exta help day will be  Thursday.

You should bring these to class each day : a pen/pencil, a three ring binder with note paper and a good attitude. Even if you are a poor test taker you can do well in class if you complete your homework and work hard in class you will pass the class for the year.

This September 11th marks the 10 year anniversary of the attacks on the Pentagon and the World trade Center. Our nation has changed greatly over this time and we will spend the first weeks of class looking at these changes.

Book work due Friday, September 2. All homework should be either written on lined paper or typed. Make sure to put your first and last name, class period, and assignment on each completed assignment. All questions that ask "what do you think?" are asking for your opinion.

Read Chapter 34 section 4 (pages 1115-1119).

List and identify the terms, people, and places listed on page 1115. You can use the glossary at the end of the book or find these bold blue words in the reading. Skim the section first, look at the picture on page 1115, why do you think President Bush spoke about international security in the fall of 2002? What is pictured on page 1116? Look at the map on page 1117, what nations are suspected of having biological, chemical or nuclear weapons? Why should the US be concerned by this? Who is pictured on page 1118? Look at the picture on page 1119, why do you think the Freedom Tower will be 1776 feet high?
