Week of October 31, 2011

Happy Halloween on Monday.  Where did the Halloween tradition originate?

29(1) assigned last week will be due on Tuesday.
This is a good week to catch up with missing homework as the term ends Friday.
As we watch Swing Kids try to focus on how the Nazi's used propaganda to indoctrinate the you of the HJ.

This week we will recreate the 1932 Weimar election which led to the Nazi take over of Germany.
A quiz grade will be given based upon your participation in the simulation.  We will also have an in class essay and a quiz based upon the simulation.
You will have to understand the basic political positions of the Nazis, Socialists, Communists, and Center Party to complete the quiz.

Homework due next Tuesday (11/8) will be accepted this Friday for credit on both terms.


29(2)The Axis Advances (930-938)
Identify the terms, people, and places.
Answer Thinking Critically questions #1+2 on page 933.
Answer Thinking Critically #1 on page 935.
Read the picture caption on 936, how did the Japanese treat the Chinese?
Read the caption to the picture on 938, answer the question.
Finally, answer the four checkpoint questions in complete sentences.

29(3) The Allies Turn the Tide (939-945)
Identify the terms, people, and places.
Read Witness history (939) why did WWII become a total war for the US?
Read the infographic (941) identify three new WWII technologies and explain how  they were used to win the war.
Read the three biographies on page 944, identify each of the 3 Allied leaders, their country and two facts about the leaders from each reading.
Answer the three checkpoint questions in complete sentences.


Separate homework grade: 
Read D-Day 946-7, answer the three thinking critically questions on page 947.
