This is the last week of term one.

This week we will look at the causes and effects of WWI.
Complete these sections before Friday's quiz.

26(3) Winning the War (829-833)
Identify the terms, people and places in split page notes. Always make sure to kick back the questions when you complete the four checkpoint questions. Look at the propaganda poster on page 890. How is it related to the sinking of the Lusitania? Also, who was Edith Cavell and why did the British government spread her story?

26(4) Making the Peace (834-838)
Identify the terms, people, and places in split page notes. Complete the four checkpoint questions in complete sentences.

Separate homework grade: answer the two thinking critically questions on page 835. Answer questions 2 and 3 /Map Skills on page 837. Answer question 1 and 2 (Analyzing Political Cartoons) on page 838.

Look at the Causes and Effects of WWI (page 846)

Week of October 13, 2009

In order to understand the causes of WWI we will be studying Imperialism and Nationalism.
The causes of New Imperialism are clear: the need for markets and raw materials as well as a colony to sell finished products. When imperialism combines with the growing nationalism of the second half 1800's the result is war.

For homework we will be looking at Germany's growing nationalism rise to world power in the 1800's.
Due FridayY 22(1) Building a German nation p. 691-695.
Identify the terms, people and places in split page notes. Answer the three checkpoint questions in complete sentences. Also, answer the focus question on page 692, and #3 on Map Skills (p. 693).

22(2) Germany Strengthens (p.696-699)
Identify the terms, people, and places in split page notes. Answer the three checkpoint questions in complete sentences. Read the biography of Bismarck on page 697, answer the question in bold print. Also, answer questions 1+2 onpage 698 (Analyzing Political Cartoons).

Finally, read page page 709: Concept Connector-Nationalism. Answer question #1 on page 709.

Week of October 4, 2009

Notice the harvest moon last night and tonight. It is the first full moon after the September 21st Autumnal equinox, or the first full moon after fall begins. Farmers would work through the night by the light of the moon harvesting their crops.

Homework for the week.
Tuesday(period F)/Wed.periods D+E- the 5 paragraph esssy assigned last week on is due tommorrow. The topic is the best way to coach a team, raise a family etc.
Your essay should look something like this
Introduction- Thesis statement- state what your topic is and your choice.
Body- Paragraphs 2,3,4, -outline the benefits and drawbacks of
Taoism, Legalism, Confucianism. The fourth paragraph will be the choice that you made.
Conclusion- Wrap up your paper, restating your thesis.
