Mid term short essays

1.       Does man make history or does history make man?  Explain and give an example from history.  (e.g.  Gandhi and  Civil Disobedience,  Luther and the Reformation,  Hitler and his rise to power…)
2.       What are the MAINS causes of WWI?  How did the Treaty of Versailles help lead to WW2?
3.       Why did Bismarck say “the secret to German foreign policy is to make a treaty with Russia”?  What is zwifrontenkrieg ? How did the von Schlieffen Plan help to deal with zwifrontenkrieg?  Why didn’t the Schlieffen Plan work?
4.       Explain why many thought WWI would be the war to end all wars.  Explain the devastation of the western front.  How did the Treaty of Versailles help lead to the Nazis coming to power? 
5.       Explain how the feudal relationship worked and why it was so confusing. What role did the Church play in the feudal relationship?  (What was interdict and excommunication) What is chivalry and why did it develop?
