Week of September 29,2014

In English class you will work on a narrative, descriptive letter home from the trenches of the Great War.  Focus on a sensory description: what do you see, feel, hear, touch and taste?  How has war changed your view about the government that sent you for a “great adventure” that was to only last until Christmas?  You will be graded in both classes.
Honor's Class annotated reading on Influenza due on Thursday.

This week we will recreate the 1932 Weimar election which led to the Nazi take-over of Germany.
A quiz grade will be given based upon your participation in the simulation. We will also have an in class essay and a quiz based upon the simulation.
You will have to understand the basic political positions of the Nazis, Socialists, Communists, and Center Party to complete the quiz.

Mr. Stanton's Class grading and extra help


Grading policy:
   Homework:   15%
   Classwork:    25%
  Tests and Quizzes:  60%

Outside extra credit reading can add up to 5% each quarter to your final average.
Nonfiction and historical fiction will be worth more points. 
The book must be discussed with me and a short writing assignment must be completed before points are added to your grade.   The book and discussion must be completed before the last week of the term to get credit for that term. 

Book Theme:  Power, Conflict/Compromise, Change, and Connection/Relevance to today.

Extra help day:  I will be available for help every day.  Just let me know you are coming.
Thursday's I will be in room 218 for homework club.  I encourage all students to make use of the extra help and the Tuesday/Thursday late busses.
