Week of April 22, 2013

Welcome back from vacation.
We continue to study the Low Middle Ages aka the Dark Ages, and the growth of a major world religion in 622AD, Islam.  Some look at the tragic events of last week and mistakenly blame Islam.  Fundamentalists Muslims like Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his younger brother, Dzhokar, may be Muslims, but they do not share that same beliefs as the overwhelming majority of the world's Muslims.  ( Note, Muslims are the followers of Mohammed, the prophet who outlined the basic tenants of Islam, which means submission to God/Allah.)  True Islam is a religion of peace, tolerance, and submission to God's will.  We will see this week that the intolerance and hatred shown through the terrorist acts at the Boston Marathon and the assassination of one college police officer has no justification in the basic tenents of Islam.
