Week of January 23, 2017

We begin 2nd semester this week, keep up with the homework. 
Our theme is history as biography this semester.  We will look at William the Conqueror,  Joan of Arc, and Leonardo da Vinci before we start a dbq on Columbus:  hero or villain?

We will also work on your Plymouth 2020 project that you started in elementary school.  Think of  a new business Plymouth can turn to in the future much like Cordage Park served Plymouth and the world in the past.

15(4) and 15(5) are due by Friday

16(1) Spanish Power Grows (504-508)

Identify 5 of the terms, people and places.
Read a Working Monarch (504)  Use  3 adjectives to describe Philip II.
Answer question #3 of Map Skills (505). Who was the Spanish enemy at Lepanto?
Read the Infographic (506) Who did Philip II marry?
What battle assured Philip II role as defender of the Catholic Church? 
Look at the picture on 507. What state broke away from Spain in 1648?
Whose painting is pictured on 508?
Answer the 3 checkpoint questions in the section or list 3 bullet facts from each section.

Read Don Quixote, answer questions 1+2 on page 509

Read Life at Versailles (510)  What was Versailles?  Who built it? Why?
Read the Biography (511)What job did Richelieu train for as a youth? What did he become? Why do you think the artist painted 3 views of Richelieu? 
 (note: Richelieu's soldiers fought the Three Musketeers)
Read the primary source on page 512, why was it a sin to oppose a monarch?
Read the infographic (513) Answer question #1.
